Association of Professional Secretarial Staff of Nigeria (APSSON) was formed in 1990 and registered with CAC as not-for-profit, non-sectarian and non-partisan professional association for Secretarial professionals (Confidential Secretaries, Business Educators – (O.T.M.), Data Processing and Secretarial Assistants).
In its effort to ensure the perpetual existence of the profession, maintenance of ethical standard and professionalism, APSSON sponsored the Chartered Institute of Professional Secretarial Staff of Nigeria (CIPSSON) Bill at the National Assembly. The Chartered Institute of Professional Secretarial Staff of Nigeria Act, 2022 No. 31 has been assented to by the former President Muhammadu Buhari, Commander in-chief, of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Act, having been gazetted is now an Act of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as contemplated in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
The Act empowered the Professional body with the responsibility, among others, to determine and regulate the standard of knowledge, skills and qualifications of persons seeking to become Professional Secretarial Staff in Nigeria and for Related Matters.
